Pro-Life Vote Coming

September 18, 2002: As early as next week Congress may vote on a bill (H.R. 469-Abortion Non-Discrimination Act) that requires our immediate attention. As with so much federal legislation the vote could be quite complicated but here are the basics.

Pro-abortion groups are attempting to force hospitals and other health care institutions to provide, facilitate or pay for abortions. There is a federal law, passed in 1996, which was meant to protect a "health care entity" from participating in the killing of unborn children. However, this law needs to be strengthened by fully defining the term "health care entity" to include health care professionals, health plans, hospitals, and other health care facilities.

Thus, H.R. 469 would provide that none of the above would be required to cover, pay for, or otherwise participate in abortion. When the bill is brought before Congress, possibly as early as September 25, there will most likely be a pro-abortion attempt to either gut the bill or nullify it with deceptively worded amendments. When you contact your Congressman please urge him to support the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act (H.R. 469) on all procedural votes and on final passage.

Please e-mail your congressman, and please make sure that you include your address and identify yourself as a constituent.  To find your local representative, click here.
