Right to Life Applauds Frist
Leadership on Partial-Birth Abortion Ban
Role of Tennessee Physician Significant in Ending Practice
March 13, 2003—Nashville: After years of debate and two presidential vetoes by Bill Clinton, the U. S. Senate has again passed a meaningful ban on the grisly practice of partial-birth abortion. “Today’s vote demonstrates that it really does matter who you put in office. When it comes to promoting responsible, pro-life protections, you get what you vote for” said Brian Harris, president of Tennessee Right to Life.
“Were Al Gore president today, we would face another presidential veto and more partial-birth abortions,” Harris continued. “With a pro-life president and pro-life leadership in the House and Senate, pro-life voters will finally get what they’ve worked and voted for: an end to this grisly practice.”
Tennessee Right to Life is especially grateful to Senator Bill Frist for his leadership and commitment in bringing the matter to a full vote as promised. “For nine years Senator Frist has used his medical expertise to promote the passage of a meaningful ban on partial-birth abortion,” said Harris. “Now as majority leader he has effectively used his political expertise to advocate a legal end to this grisly practice.”
“Perhaps most importantly, he has spoken for the overwhelming majority of Tennesseans who agree that partial-birth abortion is inhumane and must be rejected.”
