FINANCIAL SUPPORT/AID

If you are pregnant and thinking about an abortion for financial reasons then please let us help you. There are many resources available which range from food stamps and WIC to help you feed your new baby to educational and job assistance. Also Tennessee has TennCare and a Families First Program which together provide services including healthcare coverage, cash grants, education, job training, child care, employment assistance, and transitional benefits to poor or low income Tennesseans working toward a lifestyle without welfare.

Crisis Pregnancy Centers - Tennessee Right to Life Crisis Pregnancy Centers Page
Throughout the United States, there are nearly 3,000 Crisis Pregnancy Centers staffed by volunteers ready to provide real help to women facing unplanned or untimely pregnancies. In addition to providing pregnancy tests and counseling, these centers often offer a full range of services, helping women obtain housing, maternity and baby clothes, baby equipment, pre- and post-natal medical care, legal assistance and financial support, information about adoption, and even advice on how a woman in school can continue her education.

On New Year's Day 1994, Tennessee made history by withdrawing from the Medicaid Program and implementing an innovative new health care reform plan called TennCare. TennCare required no new taxes and extended health coverage not only to the nearly 800,000 Tennesseans in the Medicaid population, but also to an approximately 400,000 uninsured or uninsurable persons using a system of managed care.

Food Stamps - www.fns.usda.gov/fsp
The purpose of the Food Stamp Program is to end hunger and improve nutrition and health. It helps low-income households buy the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. The program is operated by State and local welfare offices, and the Federal Government oversees the State operation of the Program. The program is in operation in the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Guam and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

WIC (Women, Infants and Children) - www.fns.usda.gov/wic
Food, nutrition counseling, and access to health services are provided to low-income women, infants, and children under this special supplemental nutrition program. WIC provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children who are found to be at nutritional risk.
